BRC-IoP Issue 3 and ISO 9001:2008

From food packaging to the certified quality system.

To satisfy the strict regulations of the food industry, Cristina has organised itself to obtain the BRC-IoP certification, which certifies that the packaging is suitable for coming into contact with food.

The BRC-IoP standard, developed by the British Retail Consortium & Institute of Packaging, guarantees safety of food packaging through the application of the HACCP Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points)methodology, a system that analyses the possible areas of contamination (bacteriological, chemical, foreign matter, etc.) throughout each phase of the production process, determining the various containment measures to zero all risks or to keep them below the maximum allowed limits, through constant process monitoring. In addition to the adoption of the formal risk analysis system (HACCP), the BRC-IoP standard also requires the adoption of a documented technical management system as well as a system for the control of the production environment, of the product, of the processes, and of the workforce.

The certification attests that Cristina rigorously meets the hygienic requirements for the company’s environment, for its personnel and for anything and everything that might contaminate the packaging and consequently the product contained therein. A result achieved after two years of investment in personnel training and in the adaptation of the production site, sealing and air-conditioning departments and separating the BRC areas (technically defined as white areas) from the non BRC areas (black areas) through the creation of walk-through areas (grey areas).

In a decidedly upright and unprecedented manner, Cristina developed a quality system based on the ISO 9001:2008 standard at the same time it was developing the food packaging standard. This certification attests that Cristina is capable of managing the activities of a certain organisation through the identification and control of the relative processes and repetitions in a methodical and organic way.

We are very proud to be able to share with you, after so many years of hard work, the contemporaneous achievement of two such prestigious objectives.
